Rare lidded marmalade or compote bowl from the Spode tableware line Gainsborough, may also be used as a butter dish. Gainsborough is inspired by the paintings of Harry Hammersley who specialized in colorful flower and fruit still lifes. The shape is usually Marlborough, although the Rutland shape was used especially for the British market. The transfer print in beautiful colors is classic, elegant and timeless. This tableware line was in production from 1954 to 2003, with some interruptions.
