The celery vase is a typical Victorian table accessory. The Mediterranean vegetable celery was also grown in England from the beginning of the 19th century, but the English climate made the vegetable a luxurious, difficult to grow speciality. The expensive vegetable was served as a centrepiece on the table in vases. This example is made of pressed glass, decorated with etched ferns. Made in England in the last quarter of the 19th century.
