Bronze sculpture of the profile of an African Mangbetu woman from Congo, Haut Uele province. The Mangbetu were known for their elongated heads. The tribe tied babies' heads tightly with textiles to achieve this result. The characteristic profile with the special hairstyle was often depicted by European artists in the early 20th century.
Heavy quality. Hardwood base. Made in the 1930s.

Dimensions: 16 cm wide, height 24 cm, 7 cm deep.
Condition: in beautiful vintage condition, a few almost transparent oxidation spots, not disturbing (see last photo). The photos are part of the description.
