Biscuit porcelain spill vase, made in Germany, late 19th - early 20th century. A spill vase was placed on the mantelpiece in the 19th century and filled with rolled paper or very thin wooden sticks, which were used to transfer fire from the fireplace to candles, lamps and cigars, etc. Until the late 19th century, matches were expensive.
The vase is decorated on the front with a lady with flowers and a hat in her hand. The background is decorated with blooming rose bushes.
Marked on the back with model number 4147.
Dimensions: 9.5 cm wide, 8 cm deep, 22.5 cm high.
In mint, pre-owned condition.
