Brown Westhead Moore Cosmopolite Victorian cake plate
SKU: SD804Blue Aesthetic Movement Transferware cake plate, made by the Brown Westhead Moore firm in North Stafforshire, last quarter 19th century. The white plate with reticulated rim has a blue decoration of blooming field flowers.

The starting point of The Aesthetic Movement was that art should not convey a moral or sentimental message, but should only serve to stimulate the senses. Their goal was to make existence as beautiful as possible in a literal sense; Art for Art's sake. Porcelain production mainly used blue transfer prints on white porcelain; "Blue Aesthetic Movement Transferware". The movement existed from 1860 to 1900. One of the figureheads of this movement was Oscar Wilde.
