Christofle antique silver plated shell dish with glass insert
SKU: TAVZ219Very rare antique Christofle shell shaped dish with glass insert. Can be used variously for butter, caviar, scallops, as a fish bone dish, but also as a trinket dish.
The silver plated shell dish is marked on the underside with the Christofle mark that was used from 1844 to 1862 and with production numbers that differ per dish. This early Christofle mark, the CC oval mark, consists of an oval containing four stars, the two capital letters C (Charles Christofle) on either side of a scale, below is a bee with two palm branches below. The insert is made of pressed glass, possibly Vallérysthal.
Dimensions silver-plated bowl: 13.5 cm x 11.5 cm and a 2 cm high rim.
Condition: in beautiful used condition with signs of wear consistent with age and use.
